At the end of the Capstone Project, I found out that the current Early Childhood Issues are to get parents involve in their children’s learning for Mother Tongue language, offering more Mother Tongue language choices to cater for children of different races and having difficulty hiring local teachers to teach Chinese language. From the interview with the Centre Principal, I learnt that have interviewing is important so that it will form a broader perspective of the issue. The interview provides us with different informations and it would be easier to classify the data collected into specific umbrella of needs to give us a clearer understanding about what needs the centre has. I also learnt that interviewing will change our own perspective of the issue because we will be listening and trying to understand the issue from a professional’s point of view about the issue. The recommendations commented by the Centre Principal provides a deeper and more insightful point of view that we might not know of as the Centre Principal is the one who knows the solution best. Her comments will be able to tell us if our recommendations will be effective to resolve the issue the centre is facing. The feedbacks provided would also help us to reflect on the ideas on sustainability and feasibility.

Before the start of the project, we have to discuss as a group to select a topic. This will train my communication skills with my teammates to see whether I will be able to work well with them. Next, the interview process with the Centre Principal would also train my communication and interviewing skills. This is because we have to converse with the Centre Principal to find out what needs the centre has. Throughout the interview, my own assumptions and beliefs were slowly changing after hearing the professional’s point of view. However, there are still many questions that are arising in my mind on why the centre would face such issues and why some of the solutions are not effective. I also wondered why my assumptions at the start have not been an issue to the centre so I went to seek for the answers by questioning the Centre Principal based on the arising questions that I have. After which, classifying the data collected from the interviews and surveys into specific umbrella of needs improve my organisation skills. This also enhance my problem solving skills and communication skills as we will have to work together to classify evidences from the interview transcript and surveys into different categories. The last step of the project is to create a wix website, brochure and craft our own group recommendations. All these require lots of organising, communication within group members and problem solving. We have to constantly communicate with each other to settle on the website and brochure design, as well as crafting recommendations together. I learnt to be more organised as I have to do the task in an orderly manner and on time so that I will not drag my teammates down. When crafting the recommendations, it requires me to problem solve on whether the recommendations would be suitable for the centre. While doing this, I would often question and put myself in the Centre Principal’s shoes on whether it would help the centre resolve the issue. I would seek the answers to my questions by asking my group members on their opinions and revisiting the interview transcripts and surveys. Apart from that, I learnt how to design the website and brochure using different digital applications. This project not only enhances my communication, organisation and problem solving skills, it also enhances my technological capabilities.

In conclusion, I had an enjoyable time implementing the project together with my group members even though it was tiring due to the heavy workload. But, I am grateful to be able to learn many interesting and insightful informations about the current Early Childhood Issues that the centre is facing today, which I did not know about.
